The Science
Science behind Netra Restoration Therapy (NRT)
Vision loss results from interconnected biological disruptions. Reduced blood flow, impaired neurotrophic support, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress and abnormal cellular signaling all weaken neuronal survival and repair.
The biology of vision degeneration
Rather than treating a single number, NRT targets the shared biological pathways that drive progressive eye disease. Here are the key factors:
-
Reduced neurotrophic support (BDNF)
Too little nourishment for nerve cells weakens their survival and repair. Implicated in AMD, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, NAION, optic neuritis, retinitis pigmentosa and Stargardt disease.
-
Reduced or unstable ocular blood flow
Low perfusion pressure starves the retina and optic nerve. Seen in AMD, diabetic retinopathy, normal-tension and open-angle glaucoma, NAION and retinal vein occlusion.
-
Chronic inflammation
Persistent immune activation damages tissue over time. Relevant to AMD, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, dry eye, keratoconus, uveitis and white dot syndromes.
-
Oxidative stress
"Biochemical rust" from too few antioxidant reserves. Involved in AMD, cataract, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, RP, Fuchs dystrophy and RVO.
-
Excitotoxicity
Excess glutamate over-stimulates and injures neurons. Linked to AMD, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, NTG, RP and RVO.
-
Ferroptosis
Iron-driven lipid damage that destroys cells. Implicated in AMD, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, optic neuropathy, RP and uveitis.
A multi-pathway mechanism of action
Because vision loss is multi-factorial, NRT works across eight targets at once: improving neuroprotection, reducing neurotrophin deprivation, improving ocular blood flow, reducing inflammation, reducing oxidative stress, supplying antioxidants, reducing excitotoxicity and reducing ferroptosis.
This integrative model draws on the herbal pharmacology of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda — many botanical molecules have documented antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective and anti-angiogenic roles — combined with acupuncture and traditional ophthalmic procedures. Explore how this applies to specific conditions.
